Our wayfaring gypsy, Marianne Kirksey, is back to teach this wonderful eco-bundle dyeing workshop. Harvest your flowers and leaves and come gather ’round the cauldrons! Marianne shares several techniques for eco-dyeing in this fun class, including how to set up a cauldron, how to use mordants, and which leaves and flowers yield the best results. After bundling, wrapping, and steaming the projects, participants will be amazed and delighted with unexpected and subtle variations in color and design, as they experiment with silk, wool, and paper. Marianne even includes a simple Japanese shibori tie-dye technique. Participants will dye 2 silk scarves, a length of wool, and several layers of handmade papers. The papers are beautiful as they are, but also work wonderfully in handmade journals or cards. Use the eco-dyed wool to hand-patch jeans or a jacket. Start gathering those fresh flowers now and put them in the freezer so they’ll be ready! Deadline for sign up is August 20. Age 12+, please.
