ESSE Purse Museum is delighted to present Votes For All Women, just in time for Women’s History Month! The temporary exhibit will open Tuesday, March 8th, and run through Sunday, June 5th - one day after the formal ratification of the 19th Amendment.
Votes For All Women takes guests on a journey though the American suffrage movement, from the founding of our country to the current day. For almost 175 years, women have petitioned, marched, given speeches, and been arrested in the name of equal political participation. Through the medium of clothing and handbags, visitors will get a glimpse into the lives of suffragettes from different
decades, to learn why they risked it all – reputations, careers, and relationships – for the ability to vote.
Additional resources will be available for guests who wish to learn more about the history of the American suffrage movement, as well as modern-day barriers to women’s political participation in the United States.
